Background

The Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority (StanRTA) provides safe, reliable, and efficient public transportation services for residents and visitors in Stanislaus County, California. With a focus on passenger safety and facility security, StanRTA continuously looks for ways to enhance monitoring at its transit hubs. The Chief Executive Officer, led an initiative to improve surveillance coverage around the agency’s primary facility and surrounding parking areas to better protect passengers, staff, and property.

The Challenge

As transit facilities are busy public spaces, maintaining safety in and around parking areas is a top priority. StanRTA identified gaps in surveillance coverage near 8th Street, including the parking lots located opposite the main building and under the nearby overpass. Without proper visibility, these high-traffic areas posed security risks for both passengers and staff.

The key challenges included:

• Limited camera coverage in critical areas such as parking zones across from the main facility.
  
• High-traffic visibility needs, requiring durable outdoor cameras capable of capturing clear footage in dynamic environments.
  
• Infrastructure integration, ensuring new cameras could be connected seamlessly to existing wiring and network equipment.

• Eight Verkada Outdoor Cameras, equipped with big of storage and 30-day maximum retention to provide continuous, high-quality footage.
  
• Cloud camera technology, enabling easy remote access and monitoring for security personnel.
  
• Efficient installation using existing infrastructure, with Safe and Sound Security handling setup on a customer-provided PoE switch and ensuring all wiring was properly labeled for long-term system management.

Results

The addition of eight new Verkada Outdoor Cameras significantly improved StanRTA’s surveillance capabilities. The upgraded system now provides:

Expansion and Continued Trust

After the initial installation for the Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority’s main facility, StanRTA was impressed with the quality and professionalism of Safe and Sound Security’s work. As a result, they awarded Safe and Sound Security additional projects. The next phase took place at 8th Street, the agency’s bus maintenance and dispatch facility, where the team installed a new Verkada camera system. This included four cameras—three indoors and one mounted on the roof exterior—along with a PoE switch, ensuring comprehensive coverage of both the interior workspaces and the surrounding exterior areas. The expanded project incorporated a mix of Verkada Outdoor Cameras and Verkada Indoor Cameras, paired with the appropriate mounts and junction boxes for optimal placement.
